Choose by fit
Who should choose which recipe app?
Start with CookBook if you want one app for saving, adapting, planning, shopping and cooking from your own recipes. The comparisons below show when a specialist requirement, such as native desktop software, a designed printed cookbook or separate household accounts, makes another app a better fit.
- CookBook: collect, adapt and cook
Start free with 20 recipes, 20 smart imports and 2 lists. Ask about saved recipes, plan dinner and cook with supported narration. Choose Pro when your collection outgrows the free limits.
Get CookBook- Paprika 3: native apps and pantry records
Choose it for installed desktop software, pantry tracking and reusable menus. Each platform is a separate purchase. Check the distinction between released Paprika 3 and announced Paprika 4 before buying.
CookBook vs Paprika- Recipe Keeper: scanning and printable cookbooks
A strong candidate for OCR and designed PDF cookbooks with native desktop apps. Factor separate platform purchases into the cost and check the editable export you need before moving a collection.
CookBook vs Recipe Keeper- ReciMe: a weekly social-saving allowance
Its 5 free weekly imports suit gradual collecting. Desktop web beta supports recipes, but planning and groceries remain mobile features. Plus PDF export is not a complete structured-library transfer.
CookBook vs ReciMe- Samsung Food: discovery and nutrition goals
Choose it when communities and recipe discovery matter alongside your own collection. Food+ adds premium tools. Shared recipe links do not replace a whole-library backup when switching apps.
CookBook vs Samsung Food- Plan to Eat: recurring menus and freezer planning
Its Menus, Freezer records and offline editing suit organised batch cooking. Import social recipes and use AI ingredient suggestions or simpler directions. Continued use needs a subscription after the trial.

Price and plan context
Compare the same plan, device and price period
Details checked on 18 September 2026. These are US dollar examples or published guide prices. Compare the billing period, platform and included features, then confirm your country, store, tax and offer at checkout.
Paprika 3 and Recipe Keeper use separate platform purchases; that is different from an account-wide subscription. ReciMe’s store lists several Plus amounts without clear periods, so a single worldwide annual price would be misleading.
Read the qualifications behind the table: a browser extension is not a full web app, an offline recipe is not necessarily editable offline, and a free trial is not a continuing free plan.
Compare the workflow
Check the exit route before committing your collection
Export is part of choosing an app. A PDF is useful for reading; a structured recipe file is more useful for moving editable fields. Neither proves that photos, meal plans or every personal note will transfer. The detailed comparisons explain the current options and the checks to make.
Keep your old account and an untouched export while importing a small sample. Check ingredients, instructions, notes, tags and images in the receiving app. CookBook’s own backups link to hosted images, so preserve those images before deleting a CookBook account.
Mealie is worth considering if running and maintaining your own server is part of the appeal. CookBook is the managed mobile-and-web choice. Self-hosting changes who maintains the system, not just which features appear in a table.

Frequently asked questions
Which recipe manager should I choose?
CookBook is our all-in-one recommendation for saving supported social recipes, websites and family scans, then organising, planning, shopping and cooking on mobile and web. Choose an alternative for a specialist need: Paprika 3's native desktop and pantry tools, Recipe Keeper's printable cookbooks, ReciMe's weekly free allowance, Samsung Food's separate-account collaboration or Plan to Eat's Menus and Freezer records.
Are the prices directly comparable?
Only when the billing period, plan, platform and region match. A per-platform purchase is different from a subscription covering an account, and a free recipe limit is different from a weekly import allowance. Check each current checkout before deciding.
Do all recipe apps import from photos and social media?
Import methods differ by product, version and plan. Several apps now support both, so older comparison charts may be out of date. Use the detailed guide and the linked current product documentation for the sources you need.
Can I move my existing recipes into CookBook?
CookBook supports its CSV and .cookbook ZIP formats for self-service imports and offers Pro team assistance with supported third-party exports. Confirm the file format and review a small sample before moving a large collection.
See supported import formats Will every app export my whole collection?
Do not assume so. Check whether the export contains editable recipe fields, individual PDFs or only sharing links, and whether images are embedded or linked. Preserve a backup and inspect a small transfer before deleting any account.
