Ingredient quantities scale in proportion. Cooking time, pan size, seasoning and raising agents may need separate adjustment.

The calculator uses the same proportion as CookBook’s recipe-scaling service: new servings divided by original servings. Multiply each ingredient quantity by that factor.

Replace the example ingredients with your own. Enter the amount separately and put the unit beside the ingredient, such as g flour or tablespoons oil. Units stay unchanged.

What needs a cook’s judgement?

Ingredient arithmetic is a starting point. A bigger cake may need a different pan and baking time. Seasoning and raising agents can need care when making large changes.

For fractional eggs, beat the egg and measure the portion needed, or choose a batch size that uses whole eggs. Keep ingredients without a quantity, such as salt to taste, as recipe notes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I halve a recipe?

Keep the original serving count and enter half that number as your wanted servings. Each ingredient quantity is multiplied by 0.5. Cooking time does not automatically halve.

How do I double a recipe?

Enter twice the original serving count as your wanted servings. The calculator doubles each ingredient quantity. Check pan size, cooking time and seasoning separately.

Can I enter fractions?

Yes. Amounts can use fractions such as 1/2 or mixed numbers such as 1 1/2 and 1½. Decimal commas also work. Leave out thousands separators.

Will this convert cups into grams too?

This calculator changes ingredient quantities while keeping their units. Use the cooking converter for cups-to-grams or other unit changes.
